The Airchair II is a lightweight, portable airport boarding chair designed to support the safe and practical transfer of passengers with reduced mobility within aircraft and airport environments. Made from high strength aluminium alloy, it weighs just 6.8kg (15lb) and can accommodate suddenly applied loads of up to 250kg (550lb).

Building on the features of the original Airchair, the Airchair II incorporates additional design features intended to support compliance with the amended US DoT Air Carrier Access Act requirements taking effect on 2 October 2026. Its compact folding design allows it to be supplied and transported in a carry bag, with the folded chair suitable for stowage in an overhead locker or dog box.

Lightweight and Easy to Stow

At just 6.8kg, the Airchair II is designed to be easy to handle, transport and store. The chair folds into a compact form and is supplied with a carry bag measuring 680mm x 435mm x 200mm. Its portable format makes it suitable for airport and aircraft passenger transfer applications where storage space is limited.

Directional Castors and Braking

The Airchair II features directional castors designed to provide flexibility when manoeuvring passengers through airport and aircraft environments. The rear castors have three settings, including 360-degree rotation, fixed forward and backward travel, and push-on/push-off braking.

Rotating and locking castors are also fitted to the front of the chair, helping the operator control the chair during passenger movement and transfers.

Fold-Down Footplate

The Airchair II is fitted with a fold-down footplate featuring non-slip tape and straps to help keep the passenger's feet secure during transit. The footplate can be raised when not required and lowered for passenger use.

Automatic Safety Stay

An automatically deployed safety stay engages as the Airchair II is opened. The mechanism locks the X-frame during use, providing an integrated feature for the chair's deployment and operation.

Retracting Backrest for Passenger Transfers

The retracting backrest is operated using a simple push bar. This allows cabin crew or carers to move closer to the passenger when assisting with transfers from one seat to another.

The seat and backrest are made from fire-retardant, wipe-clean recycled e-leather from GenPhoenix, providing a surface designed for passenger comfort and routine cleaning.

Hygienic Anti-Microbial Frame Finish

The Airchair II frame is finished with Sterilcoat-AM® anti-microbial powder coating. According to the manufacturer, the coating is designed to suppress microbial activity and the growth of mould and bacteria while retaining its anti-microbial properties after repeated washing or cleaning.

The coating is also designed to provide resistance to stains and scratches, supporting regular cleaning in environments where hygiene is an important consideration.

Designed for Aircraft Passenger Assistance

The Airchair II is designed around the practical requirements of passenger assistance in aircraft and airport environments. Instructions for use are provided in the carry bag and incorporated onto the backrest, allowing cabin crew to access deployment and operating information when required.
